Remember X-Ray?

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Just e-mailed this to the editor at xfm.co.uk. I went with an OTT angle with the hope that it may result in a response. Who knows?

What happened to X-Ray?

http://www.xfm.co.uk/article.asp?id=12391&r=r

I was an avid reader of this pocket sized magazine and as you can probably tell I tend to hold on to the past (I mean it has been 6 years!) You’re probably thinking – get over it already, though I do note that no update on this great piece of music literary has been made. As an excellent source for exposing new music I would read the recommended albums of the month and think ‘Yeah! This is my kind of music’ and immediately went out to buy at least one from the list. Ever since then (yes, ever since 2003) I haven’t found anything to fill the void.

So I guess I’m asking, what happened to X-Ray?

All the best,
Gemma

Forgive me, it’s nearly 4pm and I still haven’t eaten yet.

Finding Installation Art

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

There have been many occasions where I have turned to the Internet in the search of installation and land art within a reasonable distance that I could travel to on a whim. Now either I am not very good at using search engines, or there are not that many [if any] websites with an extensive catalogue of installation and land art. My main gripe is that catalogues that do exist do not allow you to browse by location. So, you know that saying? If you want something done do it yourself.

This is what I shall do. It will live at www.installationartscene.com, it will be sectioned by location and the emphasis will be on travelling to view these pieces. After all installation and land art is meant to be experienced in real life, and for me personally viewing a photo on a monitor just isn’t the same thing. Obviously not all installations are permanent so there are times when viewing a photo is the most you can experience, but whether past or present, large or small it will feature.

So, this is really a call for content. If you know of any pieces you think should be included in Installation Art Scene send them over!

Installation Art Scene is currently under construction. In the mean time if you know of any installation and land art around the Midlands, UK let me know and I will take a visit.

Website Rebrand

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Rebrand. I have taken a couple of my existing websites and transformed them into one, more portfolio orientated site. Yes, I am a web designer. I dabble in photography, analogue and digital. I enjoy art, especially the installation variety. I like finding narrative based websites. I am inclined to start a blog and not post to it [this will be a thing of the past].

My intention is to comment on the things I find along my way. If you find them interesting too then fantastic [feel free to share/comment too].
